McGuigans To Reunite

It has been over 160 years since two brothers, Henry and James McGuigan left their beloved family and home in Ireland for an incredible adventure searching for gold in the far distant land of Australia. I am travelling from Australia to our ancestral homeland to meet McGuigan relations living in and around Maghera Northern Ireland. Our McGuigan family has lived in this area since the 1700's and possibly even earlier. This historic journey back to Ireland with its majestic scenery, inspiring people and history promises to be filled with excitement and amazing discoveries culminating in the gathering of the clan at Maghera on Sunday 22nd July 2012 for a day of joyous celebration. My much anticipated adventure begins on Friday 29th June 2012......

Day 17 Dublin Ireland Monday 16th July 2012

This morning we are leaving Dublin heading to Kenmare in County Kerry - can't wait to see some more of the beautiful green countryside during the 4 hour drive. Kenmare is where Mother Mary O'Hagan, our first cousin, started the world famous Kenmare Lace and established a school for children in the 1860's.

Now for our day yesterday. Firstly we attended Mass at the beautiful Carmelite Church St Theresa's just off Grafton street. The singing was beautiful with a full choir filling the church with sweet sounds. We were even able to kneel at the marble altar rail to receive Holy Communion something I have not done since I was a very young child. It was both emotional and so very reverent.
We found a little leprechaun along the way - hope he brings good luck. If you look close you can see a McGuigan resemblence!

After Mass we went to the Gaiety theatre to get our tickets for Riverdance and then onto the famous pub Davy Byrnes which was lovely. I also organised for a horse and carriage to collect us at our apartment to take us to the theatre and I was SO excited about going on this journey through the streets of Dublin just like they did all those years ago.
The carriage ride was fantastic and I loved every moment of it waving to the kids and adults along the way. Riverdance was AWESOME  and we had the time of our lives. The Gaiety Theatre was opened in 1871 and has an amazing atmosphere with wonderful architecture and I felt right at home!
After the theatre we went to Waggamama for dinner then home to pack up for our road trip today.
